While attending the Chicago Butch O'Hare show, we made a side trip to Marty and Mary's, otherwise known as M & Models.   The store is in a suburb of Chicago called Oaklawn, IL.   It is not hard to find, and is very accessible from a major freeway.   (I-294)   It has a very friendly atmosphere, and it's not unusual to find a small group of guys sitting around discussing just about anything and everything.   This is truly one of the biggest little hobby stores on the planet.   Every inch of the place is chock full of plastic, resin, and photo-etch, not to mention paint and reference materials.   Besides all the hardware, the knowledge of the industry these folks possess could fill a whole other store.   It is not unusual for Mary to be traveling the world discovering, meeting, and acquiring exciting new products from previously unheard of manufactures, or meeting with the corporate giants, (like Mr. Tamiya) that made our hobby what it is today.   They are quite literally on the pulse of the industry.

What is also impressive, besides the sheer number of kits is the variety of subject matter.   While the scales may be tipped a bit to the armor side, there is no shortage of auto and aircraft subjects, and not the run of the mill kits either.   I spied a number of unusual items not often seen in hobby stores.   All of this doesn't even start to take into account the after market and accessory items they stock, which is arguably the strength of their business.   When you consider the passion they have for the hobby, and the personal relationships they have forged with vendors and manufactures around the world, it's not hard to understand why M &Models has the latest products on the market today.   It takes this kind of dedication to stay on top of everything, because the aftermarket and accessory industry is such a niche market.

If you're ever in Chicago with some extra time, take a well-recommended trip to M & Models.   Browse the vast selection, smell the resin, (UMMM!), or just kick back and enjoy good conversation.   If these folks don't have it, you probably don't need it!
